Portfolio Re-Up!

I recently signed up for the big SCBWI conference in LA this summer. This conference and the one in NY are the main biggies as far as children's books conferences go, and I be never been to this one!

I want to bring my A-game, so I figured it's time to take a look at my portfolio and amp it up a bit, which means making a few more super adorable pieces to add to my portfolio!

Here's one of them:

If you are someone interested in children's books either as an artist or writer, and want to get insight into the publishing world, the SCBWI is where I would start.

The conferences offer so much great advice, not to mention the potential networking and exposure into this market.

Keychains

I usually make my critters as magnets, but everytime I make them as keychains, it's so very satisfying.

So I want to bring this option to my Etsy store! Now any critter set can be requested as keychains, or a combo of magnets and keychains.

Hooray!

Buttons

I got myself a button maker for my last birthday and I just continue to have more and more fun with it!

It's super easy to use and it's so satisfying to see my little Ria Art doodles in button form.

At conventions, these little guys are a must have for artists-well, I think so at least. Of course they don't have to be fan art either! Most of my buttons are little doodles I have uploaded on Instagram, regardless, buttons sell very well.

They are inexpensive to make and this smaller size ( I believe the size I use is 3/4" ) can be sold for just $1. So people passing by can hardly resist-and they certainly add up over a day of sales.

The button maker I bought on Amazon was around $200, but it came with 1,000 button pieces. I haven't even had my maker for a year and I have already sold over 200 buttons! So for me, I think this little investment was completely worth while for Ria Art at conventions.

Now I just need to work on getting them up on my Etsy page~ :-D

Friday!

It's been a long week and I'm thankful that it's Friday! To help me celebrate is my party owl! Woot!

I'm currently working on several new illustrations, which I will share soon. It certainly takes a lot of good creative energy though!

I'm working on some drawings from one of my all time favorite stories, The Wizard of Oz.

But for now-a break with party owl and some watercolor!

Art Licensing

I recently have been taking notice of all the lovely illustrations on products in the stores I frequently visit.
This got me thinking that someone out there had to illustrate that! It makes me want to take part too!

So I have been working on a few collections and have recently added a section for this type of art work on my website-

My Woddsie Pals are included as well, I think they would be so sweet in a baby nursery on a variety of different items.

Reso Box Show

The Reso Box show in New York for Amigurumi artists was so amazing. I feel privileged to have been able to submit my work to be displayed (and bought!) along side some of the most amazing crochet artists around the world!

One of my most favorite artists s Vivika Vaina, Wandering Deer on Etsy, who is known for her super sweet and precious crochet characters. My favorite is the miniature penguins she makes.

I just had to buy one of her sweet penguins to include in my own miniature crochet family.

Here are some pics of the gallery. I have no idea how they managed to bring this room together! There are so many strings and Amigurumi all over the place!

Each crochet character is from all over the world, so it was so much fun to see so much talent from everywhere in one exhibition room!

Here is a picture of Takashi Ikezawa-the master of the gallery! I'm so flattered that he asked me to be a part of such a great show:-)

And finally, some pictures of Ria Art up on the strings!

They got a little jumbled, but they're there and adorable too!

When I first arrived, I was sad because I couldn't find most of the pieces that I sent I to the show, so thi thoughts they didn't really like my work! However, I came to find out from Takashi that Ria Art Amigurumi were quite popular and most of them already sold!

I was through the roof and feel so happy to have participated in this show.

If you missed the show and have become interested in taking home some of your very own Ria Art Amigurumi, don't despair! You can find me on Etsy as Ria Art World. Or click on the link in the column to the right, where you can find your very own super sweet little critter to adopt!
