Let it Snow!

Im letting it snow with critters today! I certainly have enough Etsy orders to do so!

These little guys are more definitely my Christmas card for this year!

The snow is flour and glitter mixed together;-) I had way to much fun setting up this scene. I even hung the little crochet snowflakes I made over them, so it would look like it was actually snowing on this little trio!

They are just barely visible-a little blurry, but there!

Snowflake Critters

I just finished making so many little snowflake ornaments to be sent out with my holiday mailer, I'll share a picture of my card soon-but I wouldn't have been able to make so many if it weren't for my little North Pole critters cheering me on!

💙 for my penguin and polar bear critters.

If you love them, you can find them in my Etsy store as a part of my zoo critter set!

Resobox

Tonight is the New York exhibition at Resobox for Amigurumi from all over the world!

I was fortunate enough to be asked by Resobox to submit over 50 pieces to be exhibited for sale!

So if you're in the NY area, check it out! There would be so many great Christmas gifts there!

Winter Wonderland

I'm in the midst of finishing up all my holiday mailers, so there are a bunch of little snowflakes all around me!

I figured I should enjoy them all for just a little bit before they're shipped off. So my fox and bunny stuffties are taking a moment to walk around and appreciate them.

Walking through a winter wonderland-la la la!

I actually came up with the patterns for these two characters last winter around this time, so it's nice that I still have the original stuffties here to enjoy my new snowflake patterns!

Squirrel Pillow

I have been a crafting machine these days with the approach of Christmas! My Etsy store has been quite busy, which is always a good problem to have.

With everything I need to crochet and sew, I love it when an order comes in for something I already have made. Fortunately, these cutie squirrel pillows have been a favorite & I'm off to ship a few of them out now!

I only have the squirrel's little foxy pillow friend left, so I wonder if anyone will adopt him as well!

Decorating

Those of us who get a Christmas tree every year most certainly delight in decorating it!

I just have a little fake tree while I'm enjoying apartment life in SF, but it is still just as much fun to put ornaments and lights on it.

Last night, I just happened did to come across some little critters putting some extra ornaments on the tree! These crochet snowflake ornaments are so sweet that I think I'll have to make one for everyone this year!

Holidays

The holidays are so festive & it has been so much fun decorating!

This was my holiday card from last year & these little critters decorating this tree certainly remind me of myself and everyone around me.

The best part is seeing all the lights and everyone's trees in their windows:-)

It's time to start addressing my Christmas cards for this year!

Ready? Set, Snow!

I was looking through some of my old posts and came across this one from last year. I fell in love with it all over again.

I definitely need to make more of these little guys, but I think I want to also focus on the adorable little snowflake patterns I drew in the background.

I think they could be great inspiration for some snowflake Christmas ornaments.

Chirp Chirp

Here are some miniature bird keychains!

These guys started out as a gift request from a friend. I loved the look of the little guy so much, that I decided to make more, in different colors of course!

They will join my Etsy shop in 2015, for now, these particular birdies were shipped off to New York to be sold in an Amigurumi show for the holidays.

Packaging

Lately, I have been thinking up ways to package my larger crochet stuffties.

They come with a prop, in this example, the monkey comes with a banana of course.

Along with several different clothing accessories that can be worn together or one at a time!
They include a bowtie with Velcro fastener, a poof-ball cap and poof-ball scarf.

I like the idea of having the set spread out in some kind of display. So I'm attaching them to a chip board and will probably put it in a clear plastic wrap.

This would be an great way to show off the set at conventions, but I may keep my usual packaging for my Etsy store-which is also quite cute.

New packaging look in progress:

Etsy packaging:

I just love the idea of a sewn cloth bag holding the stuffty and his gear. It makes the little guy portable while giving him a cozy place to be stored.

Rain Hearts

I love rainy days! A little heart rain sketch for some needed rain in SF today!

It feels so cozy to sit in a big, puffy sweater while drawing and listening to the rain!

Looks like someone is making sure to save the page I was taking notes on;-)

So sweet when I have one if my little critter friends looking out for me while I'm working away!

Buzz Buzz

Buzz buzz-it's Monday!

There was a little bug that kept buzzing in my ear while I was drawing this little bear.

It's kept saying 'good luck this week!'

So I'm gonna pass on the little guys words to my bear and everyone else this week!

Cute in Yellow Today

I recently got an order for a rainbow set of miniature octopi magnets and the only octopus I found already made was the yellow one! He must have been the only one that did not sell at my last convention.

So I wanted to photograph the little guy with some yellow friends to make him feel a little less lonely while I work on his rainbow buddies~

Creepy Cute

It's the perfect time of year to bust out a few patterns from the awesomely adorable Creepy Cute crochet book!!

I am certainly enjoying the simplicity of these ghouls and goblins! It makes it so you have to be really intentional with the details added to the two basic body shapes. It is a great way to work quickly. I can bust out many Amigurumi in a short time and have them be easily recognized!

Being able to crack open a pattern book every once and a while, is certainly inspiring!

Pumpkins!

Pumpkins! Which one is the critter pumpkin? ;-p

I wanted to start crocheting up some new Halloween patterns to be sent out with my October mailer.

I've had the little ceramic pumpkins since I was a child, so I used them as inspiration to come up with this little pumpkin critter!

Felty Zombies!

I decided to take a crafty little break to some Zombie Felties! The patterns are from this super fun book that I just had to crack open for the season.

One is just a regular zombie & his friend is a pumpkin zombie! The sequins are his brains spilling out!

Creepy, but so adorable!

Halloween Card

Last year around this time, I posted an Instagram post of my little candy corn critters. This was the first post that got quite a lot of likes when I was still relatively new to Instagram.

It's still one of my favorite posts to this day, so I wanted to print it.

The result: a super cute Ria Art World Halloween card!

It's time to start writing!

New Illustration

My newest illustration to be officially added to my portfolio! Yay:-D

I did this illustration as an exercise for the last SCBWI conference I attended. A few of us had the opportunity to illustrate a scene from a selected manuscript and then have it critiqued in front of the conference by Patrick Collins with Publishing house- Harper Collins.

I was on the fence about keeping this illustration, but after it was well received, I decided to keep it!

Bookmark Origami

I stumbled across this origami book at the home of the children I nanny for with all of these more non-traditional patterns. They were so beautiful, that it felt inspired to search around for some other patterns.

I discovered a kimono pattern & decided to make it into a girl in the kimono-on a bookmark too! Viola! Functional beauty!

It was fun to do a little calligraphy too. It reminded me of my undergraduate days in Japanese class:)

My Little Pony

Recently, I have been digging into my last for a little inspiration. I'm surprised to find that My Little Pony is even more popular today than when I was a child!

So I thought I would give crocheting a pony a try. This is the sweet Shutterfly, a Pegasus pony. She is one of the ponies from the new series:-)

I'm pretty pleased with her stylization, but my favorite part is her sweet little blushing cheeks!

Spirited Away

Throwback to some old Spirited Away drawings I drew on one of my super old notebooks from high school! I love seeing what inspired me back in the day & what continues to inspire me now.

For as long as I can remember creating has been the most important part of my life. It is a passion that has continued to grow everyday and I could not imagine doing anything different! <3

Princess continuation<3

Continuing on with my Princess doodles-so here's a sweet little Snow White for everyone!

For this doodle, I used a watercolor paper instead of my gessoed illustration board & then went back in with my prismas-I love the colors!

More to come soon! :)

Felty Groupies

Felty Magnet Critters! What a sweet little grouping of animals to brighten everyone's day-more to come!

I have just recently received the confirmation that Ria Art World will have a table at APE in October here in SF! So I have been sketching up some new felty critter ideas!

Here are a few finished guys so far, along with a few oldies but goodies:)

Jake and Finn

Bam! Just had to draw Jake & Finn. Little Adventure Time Tuesday please!:)

Also, I am becoming more and more satisfied with how my digital painting is turning out these days. Yay! I think it has been helpful to practice painting some characters that I already have established associations with too.

Cool Zebra

Cool Zebra drawing & friend ;-p

Just decided to experiment with watercolor and some colored pencils here.

I found this adorable Peruvian finger puppet at a Signature Imports type store. I bought a few of his buddies too:)

He's so cute, I just had to draw a little cool-guy zebra inspired doodle.

Up & Away!

This week I have been playing around with my watercolors. I typically like to paint color digitally onto my drawings, but I always love the look and feel of drawings that have a true hand-touched look.

It's always good to keep exploring little skill sets here and there to keep my work fresh while challenging myself.

So I drew this little cat floating away!

Good Luck this Week!

For many young people, school is starting soon. We are all about to embark on Fall as well. So I just figured we all needed a little luck from Rilakuma's chicky friend.

Especially with it being Monday and all, who could resist a little extra luck from some adorable fan art?

                                    'luck for you?'

Here are some little doodles I just completed.

I set out to think up some designs for some super cute animal felties, but I think these could easily become buttons in the future!

Summer Days and Nights

For the SCBWI conference this year in September, a few illustrators get to illustrate from a manuscript that will be critiqued by an editor at the conference!

I chose a rhyming book about summer, and here is one of my character sketches of the little girl and her cat:)
